The Paralyzed Condition
The DnD rules include a wide range of circumstances that will affect a character’s abilities and actions. These are called CONDITIONS. These circumstances can include the POISONED Condition, which occurs a lot in this adventure. BLIND, DEAF, and FRIGHTENED Conditions are also common. Conditions can also include positive effects. Being INVISIBLE is also technically a Condition. Conditions typically have a short duration; the text of the adventure, attack, or spell will describe exactly how long the Condition lasts and how to end the Condition.
Another common Condition in this adventure is the PARALYZED Condition. If you have the Paralyzed Condition, you are incapacitated and can’t move or speak. You automatically fail Strength and Dexterity Saving Throws. Attacks against you have Advantage, and any hit from within 5 ft becomes a Critical Hit.
DnD rules include a dizzying array of paralysis-adjacent effects, including INCAPACITATED, STUNNED, PETRIFIED, and UNCONSCIOUS. The Paralyzed Condition is a good baseline to understand before digging into the others.
