Survival Checks

WISDOM (Survival) Ability Checks are the catchall Ability Check for adventuring in a wilderness setting. Roll a d20 and add the player’s Wisdom bonus. If a player has the Survival Skill, then use that bonus instead. If the total meets or exceeds the difficulty number, the player’s WISDOM (Survival) Ability Check succeeds. Survival Checks are commonly used for the following:

FORAGING for enough food to sustain an adventuring party in the Northern Woods for a single day requires a Wisdom (Survival) Check of 12 or higher. Feel free to adjust the Difficulty Number higher for other settings.

NAVIGATING a wilderness setting is another common use of the Survival Skill. In the Northern Woods, navigating is relatively easy. Making significant progress through the woods requires a Wisdom (Survival) Check of 12 or higher. If the player fails the roll, they make no significant progress that day. If they fail the roll by 5 or more, they become actively lost, and the Game Master should add one day to their travel time.

Feel free to adopt Survival Checks for a wide variety of wilderness uses like hunting or moving through the woods without encounters.
