How to Wish
A wish is the most powerful magical effect in DnD, so follow these quick tips, and a wish can become an unexpected portal to new adventures.
As a Game Master, listen to the exact words your player uses when making a wish. Don’t be excessively mean, but look for parts of the player’s wording that might open the door for a twist.
If the player wishes for a specific magic item, instead of bringing the item to the player, consider teleporting the entire party to the treasure room at the bottom of a dungeon.
If a player wishes for wealth, gold, and treasure, a wish can produce about 20,000 Gold worth of treasure. Go ahead and give it to the players. You’ll be surprised how quickly they will find a way to spend it.
There is no “AND” in wish. A wish can’t produce multiple effects.
Wishing for permanent effects is the most challenging. Think hard about ways to deliver the desired result without breaking the game. If a player wishes for the ability to fly, the wish might deliver a magical cloak of flying. Or if you are evil, a single potion of flying.
Have fun and let your players’ imaginations lead the way. Remember there are no wrong answers in DnD, only opportunities for more stories!
